The 2003 Institute for British Irish Studies (IBIS) conference, entitled "Old Structures, New Beliefs: Religion, Community and Politics in Contemporary Ireland", will be held on Thursday, May 15th in the University Industry Centre, UCD. The aim of this conference is to examine the extent to which, at the beginning of the twenty-first century, Irish political life continues to be entangled with religion. The conference examines separately the two great religious traditions that have traditionally dominated the life of the island. It also explores alternative formulations of religion and politics, and seeks to map the implications of change in the contemporary religious landscape for politics and ethnonational relationships on the island.
